Back Pain and Spinal Decompression

Chronic and severe low back pain are often related to bulging and/or degenerated spinal discs.

Disc bulges, also called disc herniations or disc protrusions can produce direct pressure on spinal nerves and/or can produce inflammation and swelling around spinal nerves and produce back pain, as well as the buttock and leg pain called sciatica.

Disc degeneration is a gradual process that takes place over a long period of time and typically gets worse with advancing years. Degenerating discs gradually lose fluid and become thinner, resulting in increasing compression on spinal nerves, and increasing mechanical pressure on spinal joints. The increased mechanical pressure on the spinal joints can result in spinal arthritis, which brings its own pain and other symptoms such as reduced range of motion and stiffness.

Regardless of whether back pain is a result of disc bulging or disc degeneration, or some combination thereof, spinal decompression is usually one of the most effective and longest-lasting treatments available.

Even in cases where back pain has been present for many years and even when there is substantial disc degeneration,we have obtained good results with spinal decompression using the DRX9000 system in our San Antonio office.
